Before I start my review, this is just a friendly message to bands and artists; Music submissions are now closed to Theresa’s Sound World for a little while. I’m flattered that so many of you have the confidence in me reviewing your music, but I have a massive backlog of reviews to work through, plus blogging elsewhere, a radio show, my own music, plus life in the offline world has got much busier! I will put a post out once things are a bit freer and hopefully a new music submissions video. Also, owing to time constraints, I’m only reviewing single tunes for now, so whenever I review at the moment, it will be in the ‘Track of the day’ format. If it’s a double A side/ ep or Album needing review, what I’m going to be doing is choosing my favourite track and reviewing that. Many thanks for your time and support of this blog-page; on with the review! ⭐️

Tom Cruise: This tune starts with a solitary half-Indie-jangle, half caustic Punk-style guitar. With a fuzzy kick of bass and drums, driving it forward, ‘Tom Cruise’ has a Poppy bounce, reminiscent of ‘Bleach’-era Nirvana. Again, a hybrid sound of Alternative Rock and Punk dominates. With the distorted vocals and driving rhythm, there’s little hints of UK Indie band, Blur, from their Post-‘Parklife’ US Alt-Rock influenced, late 90s period and US Punk bands such as The Offspring, blended into something quite infectious. The chorus has a manic, but memorable edge, reminding me of UK Indie of old; there’s a flavour of the fuzzier, early mid-90s output of Britpop band Supergrass and the Sex Pistols’ inspired swagger of the more Punky, 00s Indie of The Libertines. This tune is fast and furious, it doesn’t play on or celebrate it’s riffs, hooks or ideas. Intro, verse and pre-chorus/chorus/second part are done in less than 40 seconds. ‘Tom Cruise’ is very much a grounded, no-nonsense tune and it doesn’t hang about and this endears itself to a listener. Then there’s the guitar-downstroke dominated, ‘You’ve got a face like Tom Cruise...’ section, providing variance and a sense of the tune evolving. There’s a scream-a-long climax to this little variance, after which the verse re-establishes itself, this time, with a little more power and crunch. The tune builds, as the three distinct vocal-driven parts are revisited. They become ‘shoutier’, intensifying into a more visceral, Punk sounding finish. ‘Tom Cruise’ is a poppy, angry, gritty but fun tune, blending Punk, US Alternative Rock and UK Indie. I found it’s one of those tunes that sticks in your head and,I hope it does in yours! ⭐️
