Musical Links Series: No Murder No Moustache

🎼Theresa’s Sound World Musical Links Series

In this series, I link musical acts I review here on the Sound World or play on my Eardrum Buzz Radio show with other bands or artists, that I either consider as an inspiration to those acts, or ones they make me think of.

On my recent radio show, one of the musical acts I played was Welsh Folk-Punk artist, No Murder No Moustache

This has to be the trickiest Musical Links I’ve done, as there are so many bands and artists I’d want to link with No Murder No Moustache. I had to prioritise a handful of bands over a menagerie of others, including NOFX, The Offspring, Sex Pistols, Minor Threat and The Buzzcocks.

The bands I’ve chosen are:

Based in Brighton, England, (The) Levellers, with their whirlwind mix of Folk, Old School British Punk and Indie; I’ve included a link to the 1991 classic, ‘15 Years’.

Another band that remind me of No Murder Moustache are English Folk-Punk/Rock band, New Model Army. Often associated with the Goth subculture, I always think of New Model Army as Punks (their live performances playing like a Punk show). I’ve included a link to my favourite song by them, the extended mix of ‘Brave New World’.

The energy of No Murder No Moustache made me think of classic English Punk band, Sham 69, so I’ve included live versions of that band performing their songs, ‘Rip Off’ and ‘Borstal Breakout’ on the Punk documentary film, ‘D.O.A.: A Rite Of Passage’ (Look out for music history’s most well-mannered stage-invader!)

I couldn’t choose between Irish bands, The Pogues or The Dubliners, so I went for both! A joint live performance of, ‘The Irish Rover’, it’s The Pogues and The Dubliners, in the links below.

Finally, listening to No Murder No Moustache’s music I was captivated by the use of both English and Welsh in the vocals. I immediately thought of another Welsh band who sang in both languages. Coming from a totally different music background, it’s Psychedelic-Pop/Indie band, Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci and their English/Welsh language track, ‘Patio Song’ in the links.

In addition, I’ve included a link to the No Murder No Moustache track I played on my Eardrumbuzz radio show, ‘Lose Myself To The Dark’ and a link to my Theresa’s Sound World review of NMNM’s long player, ‘Hold My Beer’.

Click on the final link to listen to Eardrum Buzz Radio and if you missed my show, it’s repeated at 8pm GMT/ 12pm PST weekdays during February or check out this radio station at any time and listen to a bunch of talented DJs playing eclectic tunes ⭐️
